Description

This project was possible because of my neighbor to the south having their massive oak tree removed over the summer.  It opened up the view to the south which I never had before.  I decided to go after something in Orion since I never have since starting AP in 2020.  As a friend said to me when I first started this project in November 2022(paraphrasing), "So you're going to wage war with Alnitak huh?  Every astro-photographer needs to face Alnitak at some point, it's like a hazing into AP of some sort."  I ended up with just over 20hrs for the project, which is way more than I thought I'd be able to get.  I got lucky with the early winter weather for sure... 2-3 weeks of multiple clear skies helps rack up the integration.  The seeing was unusually good for the time of year as well.   I've been able to spend a lot of time processing this one due to the complete 180 we've had in weather.  No useful imaging nights since I finished this project's data collection, which feels like forever ago.  I hope you enjoy zooming in and looking around as much as I did!  Even though this is one of the most commonly imaged targets on earth, and I'm sure most are sick of seeing it by now
